February 7th, 2012 by Susan Reynard | Categories: environmental, hotels, industryLaurie Owen Interiors, interior designer of Clifftop Exclusive Safari Hideaway, was named Best Hotel Interior at the African Hotel Awards in 2011. The inaugural awards which were held in association with Bloomberg Television, honored Africa’s leading hospitality professionals.
Situated in the Welgevonden Private Game Reserve in the Waterberg Mountains, three hours from Johannesburg, Clifftop Exclusive Safari Hideaway was designed to reflect its African wilderness location.
Laurie Owen, who has worked locally and internationally, created interiors at the property made of natural organic materials. It features hand-beaten silver and dip-dyed fabrics, as well as luxurious “afro-inspired” stone wash finishes. Eco-friendly materials used offer a style that is both romantic and organic, including wood, felt, mohair, cotton and linen, recycled glassware and hand-woven recycled chairs.
The African Hotel Awards is part of the International Property Awards, which has been established for 17 years. The organisers decided to launch a specific program for the hospitality industry in 2011, due to an increasing number of entries within its commercial categories.
Laurie Owen Interiors and Clifftop Exclusive Safari Hideaway are both delighted to have been recognised for the outstanding interior design of this elegant lodge.
