Hilton Worldwide has appointed Derrek Anderson as vice president of development for Sub-Saharan Africa, as this global hospitality company forges ahead with the opening of its first African development office in Cape Town.
“Africa is a key growth region for us, and Derrek’s move into this position further highlights our commitment to expanding the Hilton Worldwide portfolio of brands in the continent. We are establishing our first African development office in Cape Town, with a clear directive to expand our footprint across Sub-Saharan Africa,” says Patrick Fitzgibbon, senior vice president of development for Hilton Worldwide, Europe and Africa.
Anderson is a New Zealand national and accredited chartered accountant with 15 years’ financial experience. Before relocating to South Africa, he worked as vice president of finance for Hilton Worldwide, Middle East and Africa, based out of Dubai.
Anderson began his career with Hilton in 1999, and has held various positions with the company including senior financial analyst for the UK and Ireland operation, and financial controller for the Middle East and Asia Pacific area.
“We have a good presence in Africa with nine properties spanning the Hilton and Doubletree by Hilton brands, with another five under development. With my appointment and the opening of a dedicated development office in Cape Town, we will be able to increase our footprint in Africa swiftly and efficiently,” explains Anderson.
