A British World Cup journalist will appear in a Cape Town court again today
A British journalist, Simon Wright, 44, will appear in court again today after he was arrested in connection with an incident which occurred after the England and Algeria football match in Cape Town on 18 June during which Pavlos Joseph gained access to team England’s changing room.
Wright was arrested in Cape Town on Monday at 20h25 and appeared in the Cape Town Magistrate’s court at 23h00. He was released on bail of R3 000. He will appear in the same court today.
Wright will face charges of attempting to defeat the ends of justice and a contravention of the Immigration Act, providing false information to a place of accommodation.
Part of his bail conditions stipulated that he had to surrender his passport to the police, report once daily to the Cape Town police station, that he may not go to the Bay Hotel or contact any employee of the Bay Hotel.
