Occupancy rates in all accommodation establishments around the country are down? Especially after the world cup we should be overflowing with tourists? There are numerous factors that influence this and our research indicates that one of these factors is due to crime in this country.

Crime statistics published by the Government belie the true picture. In reality a lot of petty crime goes unreported due to the bureaucratic complications that follow due to the drawn out judicial system, which makes everybody despondent.

Here i am referring to mostly the small petty crime that goes unreported because the tourist will not be available in the country long enough for our judicial process to be completed. The most common of these petty crimes is pilfering from the tourists’ luggage, from the airport where you can now have your case wrapped in plastic to the transport company to the hotel staff. Sometimes the theft is minor, like a silk scarf or jewellery or even make up, to items like cameras or laptops, but no matter how small or insignificant the item is it has far more sentimental value to the victim and has far reaching implications as to the victim’s perception of the country as a whole which directly affects occupancy rates.

Sadly 90% of this petty crime, which specifically targets the tourism industry, is committed by staff employed by our establishments. A lot of it is opportunist crime while some is run by crime syndicates but most commonly by colluding staff or even ex-staff members who are familiar with security systems in place.

In our effort to eliminate crime we have designed a system that utilises electromagnetic locks on all the cupboard doors in the guests rooms. While the rooms are vacant all the cupboard doors remain unlocked for housekeeping purposes. From the time a guest books in until the guest books out, the cupboard doors are automatically locked and only the allocated guest can access the cupboards and does so by dialling the number on the cupboard door from their cell phone. Only the guest’s registered cellular number can access the cupboard and no other cellular number will work. The moment the guest checks out their number is discarded from the system and access is denied to that guest throughout the establishment. The best part is the guest’s call to unlock the cupboards is treated as a “dropped call” and is therefore not charged for the call by his service provider. The FREE call option thereby eliminates the need for more expensive fingerprint biometric or keypad access systems.

Our system has a 3-day battery back up supply and cannot be hacked or tampered with. We record all entries to the cupboard; times dates etc, there are also intrusion and tamper sensors as well as power monitoring sensors. The system is wireless and operates on the GSM, GPRS network making it 100% secure and accurate.
