The team from General Mills together with the chefs from the Pick n Pay on Nicol’s Good Food Studio in Bryanston, Johannesburg brought the flavours of Mexico alive on 25 April. A media cook-off was designed to showcase the versatility of the relaunched Old El Paso range of products in producing a variety of dishes, as directed on package as well as using other ingredients and cooking methods. While known as a retail range, the products are equally convenient and versatile as food service ingredients.

With Mexican flavours growing in popularity, together with the exotic music and dancing that accompanies them, the range lends itself to themed events across the hospitality industry. They can be used with meat, chicken, fish or vegetables, and presentation opportunities are limitless.

Old El Paso, inspiring taste buds and sizzling up home cooked meals since 1938, announces the relaunch of their product range which consists of three Meal Kits for Tacos, Fajitas and Nachos, as well as Tortilla and Taco Shell carriers, and a selection of three salsas and a seasoning mix.

Mexican communities are known for having colourful and grand celebrations complete with spreads of delicious food, dancing and music. Cinco de Mayo (5 May), a day to commemorate a victorious battle for freedom in 1862, being one of the most memorable and historic.

With this festive day in mind, Old El Paso acknowledges the Cinco de Mayo festivities by giving South Africans their own taste of Mexico to take home. Janine Ho-Lin, Old El Paso brand manager says, “The re-launched variety of Old El Paso products ensures that everyone can have their own little piece of Mexico at home, be it for a quick mouth watering home cooked meal or a selection of salsas and dips to liven up any party.”

The Old El Paso range caters for all palates and is suitable for the whole family, from the more daring spicy meals to the milder Fajita Meal kits that still contain the flavour of Mexico, but without all the heat.

Old El Paso has become the number one Mexican food brand in the UK and Ireland and is now ready to take over South African homes with the warmth of Mexico.

Old El Paso can now be purchased from selected Pick n Pay, Checkers and Spar stores nationwide, as well as other selected retailers. Tome un pedacito de Mexico a casa ahora! (“Take a little piece of Mexico home now!”)
