Philips launches entry level LED light bulbs in SA

Philips has announced an extension to its range of energy saving LED bulbs, making this the most complete portfolio of high quality cost effective LED lamps on the market today. The new entry level LED light bulbs will replace incandescent or halogen bulbs and offer energy savings of up to 90% whilst lasting 10 to 15 times longer. In addition they offer great quality light, contain no mercury and emit no IR/UV radiation.

“The development of LEDs offers us an opportunity to innovate and develop an energy efficient alternative to a product that has remained largely unchanged for over a century,” said John Westermeyer, Marketing Manager for Philips Lighting in Southern Africa. “The fact that we now have the widest LED lighting portfolio on the market today underlines our commitment to innovation and leadership in this field.”

The competitive new entry level range includes:

  • LEDbulb 6-32W and 9.5-48W : These are designed for use in indoor areas with open luminaires. They offer energy savings of 80% when compared to 230V incandescent bulbs and comes in a choice of screw or bayonet cap. They also have a life of 15,000 hours.
  • LEDspot MV 4-35W: For use in such areas as hotels cafes and bars this is designed as an entry level mains voltage spot reflector lamp to replace 230V halogen spots. It offers a lifetime of 10,000 hours, a warm white colour and comes with a GU10 cap.
  • LEDspot LV MR16  5.5-35W and 6.5–50W : Entry level low voltage Spot lights which can replace LV Halogen spots in hotels restaurants and bars and offer energy savings of 80%. They come in warm white and have a 20,000 hour lifetime. They also offer good compatibility with existing electromagnetic and electronic halogen 12V transformers. (Both available mid May 2012)
