Rhodes Essentials launches seven new productsDecember 8th, 2011 by H&R | Categories: Press Office
“Yes Can Do!”
Rhodes is taking quality “to heart” with its new “Easy-Open” lid! No can opener is needed to enjoy the low-sodium Rhodes Baked Beans in Tomato Sauce.
With the Heart Mark as stamp of approval, Rhodes Baked Beans is the first baked beans product to be endorsed as part of The Heart and Stroke Foundation Eating Plan.
With a sodium content of just 246mg per 100g – significantly less than similar leading products currently available on the market – Rhodes Baked Beans in Tomato Sauce is also low in fat.
Rhodes’ move to reduce salt in its quality products has been commended by Shân Biesman-Simons RD(SA), the Director of Nutrition and Education at The Heart and Stroke Foundation of South Africa. It also comes ahead of a planned regulation of the Food Industry in South Africa, as announced early in September by the Minister of Health, Dr Motsoaledi.
Dr Motsoaledi declared that targets have been set to radically reduce the incidence of non-communicable diseases such as heart attacks and strokes. The aim is to reduce salt intake to less than 5g per day per person, by 2020. This will be achieved by the regulation of the Food Industry and public health campaigns via the Department of Health.
Rhodes is fully supportive of the drive, and is exceptionally proud their Heart Mark achievement – another milestone to ensure that quality and convenience takes on a new meaning for the consumer.
