McDonald’s expands chicken menu

McDonald’s South Africa has launched a new chicken menu, set to revolutionise its product range and capture a larger part of the chicken market. The range features premium quality, 100% chicken breast fillet in strips and burgers as permanent additions to the current menu.
The products are available at all 138 McDonald’s restaurants locally as of November 2009. The local launch follows the successful introduction of similar chicken menus in the USA, UK and Australia.
McDonald’s South Africa MD Greg Solomon says the move is in response to changing customer needs: “We decided to introduce the crispy chicken fillet range after considerable research into trends in the South African quick service market, where we have seen a significant growth in chicken consumption. The new chicken menu will be a highly competitive offering, but we see it as a natural progression in our commitment to offering greater choice to our customers.”

However, we would never simply cut and paste these practices into our market. We take great care to ensure that international trends are relevant to local consumers.”
The new menu items include: McDippers, Classic Crispy Chicken Fillet Burger and a Crispy Chicken Fillet Deluxe Burger.
McDippers are 100% chicken breast fillet strips, crumbed and seasoned and cooked in vegetable oil, available in two-piece or three-piece packs with a choice of Tangy Plum, Honey & Mustard or Jelapeo dipping sauces.
Classic Crispy Chicken Fillet Burger consists of a toasted water split bun topped with wheatgerm and creamy mayonnaise, fresh lettuce and a crispy coated 100% chicken breast fillet.
Crispy Chicken Fillet Deluxe Burger consists of a toasted water split bun topped with wheatgerm with creamy ranch sauce, fresh lettuce, tomato, a slice of cheese and a crispy coated 100% chicken breast fillet.
