Famous Brands has recognised service excellence in the group’s annual Supplier of the Year Awards, held in June. The awards pay tribute to top performing suppliers across a range of categories, namely: specialist, integrated, distribution, packaging, dry goods, perishables and development.
Nominees are selected after a process of facility audits conducted by the South African Food Safety Inspection Service (SAFSIS), as well as a voting process undertaken by each business unit within Famous Brands. The final decision is made by Famous Brands’ group procurement and quality assurance managing executive Pedja Turanjanin and his team.
The winners by category were:
- Specialist – Audi Johannesburg
- Integrated – Famous Brands Bakery
- Distribution – Famous Brands Logistics
- Packaging – Mondipak Corrugated
- Dry goods – Hudson & Knight
- Development – Vulcan Catering Equipment
- Perishables – Clover and Oceana (Lamberts Bay Foods)
From these winners, three top awards went to Oceana (Lamberts Bay Foods) for Supplier of the Year, Vulcan Catering Equipment for Supplier of the Year in Development, and Greg Galatis from Clover as Key Accounts Manager of the Year. Greg Galatis of Clover won an all expenses paid weekend away for two to Cape Town or Durban.
MEA Cupboards, Ink Spot and akota Family (Cresta Meats) were recognised with Famous Brands’ Supplier Hall of Fame awards, which are awarded to “Unspoken Hero” suppliers who have consistently delivered good service to the group over many years.
Famous Brands’ Pedja Turanjanin says: “Famous Brands’ ‘non-negotiables’ are continuity of supply and quality of product, guaranteed by delivery according to specifications. These awards are tribute to the valuable contribution our suppliers make in achieving that benchmark. Strong, long-standing relationships with suppliers are imperative in our business and in an ever-dynamic environment our award-winning suppliers all exceeded our expectations.”
