Johannesburg Tourism Company (JTC) received a PMR Diamond Arrow Award for the second consecutive year, for the company which has done the most to promote tourism and conservation in Johannesburg. The annual Professional Management Review (PMR) magazine’s Africa Leaders and Achievers Awards Breakfast was held at the Hyatt Regency hotel earlier this month.
JTC CEO Lindiwe Kwele says: “The JTC team is a small, dedicated team of individuals who are passionate about their work, and it is wonderfully encouraging to receive this type of unsolicited recognition from our peers and stakeholders.”
The Diamond Arrow is the highest award in the category and overall winner for the company that has done the most in Johannesburg during the past year to promote tourism and conservation. Category achievers were rated in an annual survey by some 250 senior managers in business as well as local and provincial government.
In the recently-launched Mayoral Outreach campaign to discuss the City’s Growth and Development Strategy 2040 (for more information go to www.joburg.org.za/gds2040), tourism remains an economic growth imperative on the city’s agenda. It is rated an important catalyst to encourage the development of the SMME sector to encourage the growth and development of a vibrant second economy.
It is the JTC’s mission to attract visitors to the city, encourage them to stay longer, spend more, and improve seasonality patterns and the spread of visitors across the city. JTC is a destination marketing organisation and is focused on positioning Johannesburg as the continent’s leading business hub as well as an exciting year-round destination for events, lifestyle, arts, culture, fashion, sports and mega-events.
