Shamwari Game Reserve in the Eastern Cape and Sanbona Wildlife Reserve in the Klein Karoo, just outside Cape Town, both of which are part of the Shamwari Group, have launched a new walking experience called the ‘Explorer Camp’. Guests now have the opportunity to explore the rich wilderness areas on a two-day walking safari and accommodation in mobile tents within two Big 5 territories. The Shamwari Explorer will operate throughout the year while the Sanbona Explorer will operate from October until April each year.
Explorer Camp is ideal for guests wanting to get back to nature from an on-the-ground perspective, accompanied by a qualified guide, spending two nights immersed in nature among the Big 5 while camping in the bush. The mobile canvas tents sleep a maximum of two people each and are spaced out to create privacy. Guests will learn about the flora, fauna and exceptional rock art sites at Sanbona, stargazing and history of the area. All meals are included and the outdoor bush menu includes breakfast, lunch and dinner and are enjoyed around the camp fire. Special meals are catered for when required.
Guests are required to be fit enough to walk for at least four hours a day for a speciality safari camping experience. Age restrictions do apply and any medical and dietary requirements are to be communicated upon booking.
The Shamwari Group consists of Shamwari Game Reserve, Eastern Cape; Sanbona Wildlife Reserve, outside Cape Town; Jock Safari Lodge, Kruger National Park; Nkomazi Game Reserve, Mpumalanga; and Gorilla’s Nest Lodge and Nyungwe Forest Lodge, both in Rwanda
