Top SACA chefs named judges at IKA Culinary Olympics 2012
May 2nd, 2012 by Susan Reynard | Categories: food, industry, people, tourismGraham Donet, general manager of the South African Chefs Association (SACA), and one of the delegates at the World Association of Chefs Societies (WACS) Congress in Korea, was delighted to announce that SACA president Stephen Billingham has been invited by the VKD (German Chefs Association) to be a judge at the IKA Culinary Olympics in Erfurt, Germany in October 2012. Former competitions director, chef Garth Shnier, has also been selected as an approved judge on the jury for the IKA Culinary Olympics in Erfurt, 2012.
Also attending the congress are SACA president Stephen Billingham, Allister Esau (vice president) and Jodi-Ann Pearton (competitions director) as well as a number of members and representatives of the Sandton Convention Centre and Johannesburg Tourism.
South Africa will have three teams entered in the competition: a Senior and a Junior team as well as a Military team and also a number of individual entries in various categories.
South Africa has also submitted a bid to host the 2016 World Congress of WACS on Thursday (3 May) and is competing against Athens, Greece and Istanbul, Turkey. The announcement of the host country for 2016 will be made at the gala dinner on Saturday night (5 May).
Donet says of the selection of two top judges from SACA: “This is a great compliment to South Africa and a vote of confidence in our association and the culinary skill of our members.”
